Running in Alaska

By Matt Lancashire

My mother-in-law racked up her 500th Parkrun last weekend. Next week, my mate Lachlan Stuart will kick off the mammoth task of running 58 marathons in 58 days across 58 states (America to Australia).

I’ve made a habit of being surrounded by inspiring people, be it at work or away from the office. It’s led me to where I am today, en route to Alaska with my son Monty where we’ll run the first of Lachie’s marathons with the legend himself on January 22, in temps as low as minus 20 degrees.

The prep hasn’t been easy, due to an ankle injury, but I’ve managed to clock up 100km-plus weeks over the Christmas break under the sometimes searing heat of the Queensland sun. The support has been next level, with major players including Snowscene Retail and Foot Faults Podiatry setting me up to be the best possible running buddy for Lachie. If he completes his goal, which includes finishing each marathon under four hours, it’ll be a world-first and will most likely see him also achieve his aim of raising $100,000 for the Mental Awareness Foundation.

Keen to get involved? You can take on your own challenge from January 22 for 58 days as well, while raising much needed cash for mental health initiatives in Australia. CLICK HERE for more info on that.

This time next week, Lachlan will have already knocked over a few marathons while Monty and I will be dusting off the Alaskan snow for a return trip to Brisbane. I can’t wait to fill you in on everything that went down during the start of this epic adventure.

I hope you enjoyed the read.
