Learnings from a fourth-gen fighter

What a week. One I want to bottle up and take a sip from when I next need an injection of wisdom.

The power of a network, not only Ray White Collective but our broader Ray White group, again proved itself these past few days when 350 Ray White members from Australia and New Zealand gathered on the Gold Coast for the inaugural Leadership Week.

When I wasn’t attempting to rack up running stats on Strava, I was in a room surrounded by the industry’s best, all keen to learn from each other regardless of their proven expertise.

It was a privilege to take a seat on the stage with Haesley Cush, and share our story of best mates to business partners.

Business culture is the big one for us, so we touched on the value we place on our people and the ‘in it for life’ mentality which leads to the creation of positive team habits actioned outside of the nuts and bolts of selling real estate.

Also during the conference, at the eighth Leadership Academy, Ray White’s Chairman’s Elite business owners enjoyed a case study session with renowned Harvard Business School Professor Boris Groysberg.

This Boston-based professor, who’s won numerous awards for his research, teaches courses on talent management and leadership in the school’s MBA and Executive Education programs.

His sessions are always full of learnings with the key takeaways from this one touching on mental health and how personal wellbeing relates to business.

Something else that never gets old is hearing from the White family themselves, with chairman Brian White speaking of the thrill he got to see the fourth generation family-owned and led business growing stronger.

It’s incredible to think the family established its business in 1902.

His biggest advice – “praise your teams…praise is one of the greatest gifts in the development of a leader.”

I hope you enjoyed the read.
