A new kid in town is ruffling plenty of feathers, as it carves up the humble roast chook to feed hundreds of hungry New Farm locals. Chargrill Charlie’s has finally landed in Queensland, delivered by Bronco Jack Gosiewski and partner Avalon McRae.
Jack’s one of the good blokes and deserves this success, following a rough year off the field, so it’s heartwarming to drive along Merthyr Road and spot a line of customers filing out the door. He tells me they’re feeding their award-winning chargrilled chicken, fresh salads, burgers and rolls to people coming in from as far away as northern New South Wales.
Less than a week into trading and the menu item of choice, as well as Jack’s personal recommendation, is the Meals for One, where you select your favourite style of Charlie’s chicken and three picks from a tasty selection of slides. This is simple food done well, classic dishes and family recipes that have been refined over the years since the first shop opened at Sydney’s Coogee in 1989.
Heralding from New South Wales originally, Jack’s quick to express appreciation for the overwhelming support from Queenslanders during what’s been a hectic business launch period, although he won’t go as far as to switch allegiances ahead of next week’s State of Origin decider.
As for further locations across the state, there are sites flagged at Bulimba and West End, but the focus for now is on making sure New Farm’s newest eatery is a winner. So, drop into Chargrill Charlie’s at 92 Merthyr Rd, New Farm and see for yourself what’s egg-cellent about this place (sorry, I couldn’t help myself).
I hope you enjoy the read.
