Voids are used throughout to create a sense of drama, light and connection from higher levels to lower levels, inside to outside and though the living spaces. External materials such as stone and timber battening and water features are used internally to evoke a sense of outdoors in the living areas. A deliberate play between more traditional elements, such as the Queensland timber and tin, and later post-ware development, such as the use of masonry, were used in conjunction with more modern elements to create an interface of old and new.
