Roof With a View: UP on Constance

By Katie Adams

UP on Constance  is a rooftop cocktail bar that is set high in the sky it’s bright, retro and open. Up on Constance has been specifically designed perfectly for the balmy Brisbane climate. The outdoor space situated on top of the trendy Tryp Hotel,  has spectacular views and is fast becoming our local watering hole.

Worried that it is raining? don’t be. It has been designed to cater for changing weather conditions, a retractable awning system protects against extreme sun, wind and rain.

Tonight we will be going UP, rain hail or shine.

What was the inspiration behind starting Up on Constance Street?

We were looking to design the bar to cater to International hotel guests as well as a watering hole for Brisbane city locals. We employed a team of young mixologists who could knock up killer cocktails and   provide that international service you would expect from an inner city rooftop bar in New York or London

Who was the designer behind Up?

Shane Denman Architects were behind the design but the owners also pulled inspirations from overseas trips to Berlin, Miami and New York which influenced particulars of the rooftop including its rooftop water mister which lightly cools guests over the summer

What are you looking forward to in 2015?

As a team we are looking forward to the many Wedding ceremonies/receptions we have booked on our rooftop, “All you need is love”

The menu’s are amazing! Who is behind it and what is your favourite item on it?

Warren Turnbull our 2 hat Chef/owner designed our share style menu for Up, where he showcased his many talents from his Assiette Days with our accessible modern Australian cuisine. Our favourite item would have to be the Cured Kingfish Carpaccio served with crunchy tostado chips.

What cocktail is a must?

The Espresso coco is definitely a crowd favourite as its a tasty twist on a classic where the hero is the Ciroc Coconut vodka, garnished with fresh toasted coconut flakes, One is never enough!

Where would we find you on a typical Saturday morning?

I typically would start my day at Chur Burger downstairs at Tryp Hotel with the smashed avocado on sourdough with crumbled feta, then start the working day.

Brisbane’s best kept secret?

I would have to say our bar “Up on Constance” is still a hidden Gem and people are often presently surprised when they are directed to the rooftop down the alley way

To find this hidden gem take the street art-covered lane between Kerbside Bar and Chur Burger you will see tucked away a take the glass elevator to the rooftop.
